On Toxic People and Narcissists in Ministry

April 17, 2012

The reblogged articles below provide for the reader a real glimpse into a “ministry” of which I was a part for many years…at a heavy price.

Things “come out in the wash” as they say and I am gratified that my former co-employee and her family are blowing the lid on the real state of affairs at VCY America…and have left this mechanism of fear and hate mongering so prevalent in fundamentalism today.

Demagogues, megalomaniacs, psychopaths and narcissists can even come dressed in a three piece polyester suit with a “message from God.”

I recently read an article on ( describing the problems on Wall Street stemming from clinical psychopathic behavior. The profile of a psychopath shocked me:

The twenty traits assessed by the PCL-R score are:

  • glib and superficial charm
  • grandiose (exaggeratedly high) estimation of self
  • need for stimulation
  • pathological lying
  • cunning and manipulativeness
  • lack of remorse or guilt
  • shallow affect (superficial emotional responsiveness)
  • callousness and lack of empathy
  • parasitic lifestyle
  • poor behavioral controls
  • sexual promiscuity
  • early behavior problems
  • lack of realistic long-term goals
  • impulsivity
  • irresponsibility
  • failure to accept responsibility for own actions
  • many short-term marital relationships
  • juvenile delinquency
  • revocation of conditional release
  • criminal versatility
You may know a few of these folks….and certainly the behavior described by the articles below comes very close to hitting all of the items on this check list. Psychopathic behaviors seems to be prevalent not only on Wall Street but in positions of power within even “christian” ministries.
